In the Fraser fir wreath contest, each contestant was required to make one 12-inch wreath in five minutes. In the white pine roping contest contestants had to make a 12-foot white pine rope in three minutes. New this year was the premade decorated Fraser fir wreath competition. The traditional lighting of the Christmas tree, an 18-foot Fraser fir, marked the end of the opening ti ceremonies and the beginning of 50 the festival on Friday evening.
